Estonian Central Council Congratulates Organizers of Toronto Estonian Community Centre Town Hall

APRIL 3, 2017, TORONTO- The Estonian Central Council in Canada congratulates the organizers of last Wednesday’s community town hall on the future of the Estonian community centre in Toronto. The collaboration by board members of the Estonian House, Estonian Foundation of Canada, Tartu College and Estonian Credit Union, to develop a feasible solution for a new Estonian community centre in Toronto is laudable and will hopefully continue, expanding to include all the diverse voices and ideas throughout the community.

The Estonian Central Council endorses efforts to engage the broader community in meaningful consultations to find a solution that ensures sustainability of our community and cultural heritage in Toronto and Canada. Respectful and transparent ongoing dialogue will lead to a stronger community.

All ideas, proposals and positions about the future of our community deserve to be heard and considered. Without our community volunteers and active participants, there would be no Estonian community in Canada. Their views are valuable for developing a strategic path to a sustainable Estonian future in Toronto and Canada.

“The Estonian Central Council will support, to the best of its ability, all groups and efforts to secure the future of an Estonian community centre in Toronto, inclusive of all needs and organizations” said Estonian Central Council President Marcus Kolga. He adds, “the Council is open minded and does not limit its support to one direction, strategy or group over others.”

The Estonian Central Council in Canada is the elected representative organization of the Estonian community in Canada. The Council represents the interests of all Estonians in Canada and their community organizations. The Council works with all levels of government, national civil society groups, the Estonian government and other Canadian communities to raise awareness of and support the Estonian community in Canada.
